Lab Rats

toxic hell via godot all day everyday – there will be a minor role for drawings though.

I think the past few weeks I have neglected this site as anything beyond staring into the scripting of pixels seemed like a waste of precious minutes that could be used to both resolve and generate new bugs in a never ending cycle of what I hope is a learning process.

So, to start the month, and update, on a game, no drawings this entry. But next week, entry etc. drawing shall return I think…

Lets start with the testing lab.

I made 6 rooms to try out different mechanics and bits, as well as to make sure I can get the doors to all work and that the camera will shift into positions and hold, its all pretty rough, but I don’t expect this to perfect as I have never done this before.

Rat abuse is probably mandatory in all labs by now, rats are kinda gross, but it is uncalled for.

Testing boxes, ladders, dialogue, items etc. The basics are pretty functional finally, but I need a lot more polish and tweaking.

This is the hardest bit, I am trying to make my human enemy template by sorta making a variation on the players code. But also taking many liberties with its abilities since it can be more interesting and varied.

I woke up at 3:30am to do this…?
Obsessed with “Boxes” now.

Here is the “AttackDummy” in action,

One day he will be a very simple fighter, for now he is just rather confused and prone to outburst. But at least he seems mostly to look in the right direction.

Basic library of power ups, to be doled out sparingly at some point.

Semi functioning death sequence, pay up to live.

Testing for very basic physics in here, de-tangle some code, throw it on a big head and see how it works.

And finally a bit of the “actual” game.

ok. time to go touch paper again.

Unforeseen Naps

toxic hell substitutes are not accepted here

I think I forgot to update this website in some time. I was a bit carried away with redesigning and reworking this ‘game’ of sorts, studying the River City Ransom sprite sheets. Added some CRT shader, a simple quest, double jump, better UI, and a bunch of other stuff. Wrote up some kinda manifesto for it, now I just gotta learn more programming and program it on up, no prob. Look up Heartbeast on Youtube if you wanna get into it, he has a sale on his course, which I am currently engrossed in doing: www.heartgamedev.com

Broudy’s interior, wip.

Old design had just too many pixels for me to animate, maybe in the sequel a fat headed baby design can be put to use by me. Or as a boss.

also, drawings and such
fuck up, get cut

This pic, was going nowhere slow. Now it can do so in pieces, cause… composition needed a severe shock, won’t fix anatomy tho.

Scanned in some for today too:

Honest labor at an honest wage

And a few more miscellaneous bits from the studio since I am here and not neck deep in “game development”.

Emblem of Civilization (V)

I can’t say I did much this week, I am not sure where it went or when weeks begin and end, the axis is skewed as of late, mostly weighted in a direction that favors me, yet it seems to slide into places unplanned.

I’ll just post a couple bits therefore.

As well I guess most effort went back into what once held the glorious title of “Untitled 2020”. Which once again is another piece which starts up with my usual ‘Man walks into a bar’ setup and I hope to wind up at a new punchline, the man in question is emaciated and has a deal about civilization and plans for wheat, and probably books on the best use and case situations for cages. “Great Man of History” or something to that effect.

More evidence that scanners are magical.

I can read so sometimes I do.

Inherent Issues – Go Old School or Go Home

Past week has been pretty much just one drawing, some bits of changes on other works but mostly i just did this:

The longer you look, the dumber it gets.

I used to draw just in pencil, I’m sure that’s kinda the norm, HB lead pencil in a classroom = drawing to escape boredom. But then I got into ink and it became a kinda default of work, a stupid expectation that everything will wind up dominated by this medium and balanced against it. But just working in pencil is so easy, I forget what a pain in the ass pen and ink is cause I have internalized its terrible pace.

Besides this, not much.

nah dunna think so

Supposedly I am taking part in an open studio day, but really? I don’t foresee letting people come in to my tiny drawing box and breathe their covidian breathings all down on the place. Usually someone comes in and just asks if it’s George Washington, snickers and that wraps up the human interaction portion of the day in which I play my role as subject in a human zoo.

Real happy like ok

Finally for all the shit posting, cat tax.

Many small lines accumulating

Desk was like 70 EUR, now I can no longer think of ever leaving this room cause moving it is out of the question.

Some scanning has been done, of the proper variety, no lousy hand scanner testing here, no sir.

Hopefully I can manage a weekly update, I think it will be mildly interesting in the end to see a year of drawing being built up, very mild.

Here is a few more bits of miscellany.

Fixing up the top half of “Untitled 2019”

I could never get this to scan in right, some images weren’t the same size, and I ran thru every conceivable option I thought, but I seem to have forced Photoshop into finally getting this, albeit with a bit of a fish eye lens somehow. Still gotta fix that… The pic above is cropped to avoid that annoyance, but later next week I will fix this all up and combo it into the Untitled 2019 page.

Hand Scanner Test Run

‘Loetad’ hand scanner toy – story of a test run…

Ink is dark. Not that dark, not by a mile.

To dark. Re-calibrate, and results:

Bit less contrasty

I think overall, not terrible. I will play more with the calibration, if anyone online who might be reading this and actually knows better, please please email me, I know very (very) few will read this, and then yet fewer would also have such a scanner, the venn diagram is not looking good here, but hey why not ask any ways..
